Under the watchful eye of celebrity Chef RJ Cooper, Rogue 24 is redefining the concept of urban fine dining.
The restaurant, set in what was formerly an old auto garage, is incredibly unique: the whole kitchen is directly in the middle of its 52-seat dining room! Guests are encouraged to interact with the knowledgeable culinary staff and check out their next course as it’s prepared in front of them.
Two menus are offered: the 16 course “Progression” or 24 course “Journey” — both of which offer exotic and carefully prepared sample-size dishes. With items like “liquid chicken,” the delectable iberico lomo (watermelon, manchego, almond, and cocoa nib), and savory desserts prepared by renowned pastry chef Chris Ford, Rogue 24 is guaranteed to excite your taste buds! Each menu can be paired with exquisite beverages picked out by advanced sommelier Matthew Carroll.
Although not cheap — with the Journey running at $175 ($120 without beverage pairings) and the Progression at $120 ($100 without) — the culinary creations of chef RJ Cooper might just be worth the price. Having won the prestigious James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic in 2007 and been featured on the Iron Chef America television show, Cooper is setting the bar high for DC restaurants. Aside from preparing some of the most delicious food on the east coast, his restaurant has implemented a few strict and unique policies.
When Rogue 24 first opened its doors in July, it originally had its guests sign a two-page reservation agreement with provisions like:
The restaurant has recently revised its reservation agreement after publications like Time magazine and others wrote critical articles. It is now described by Rogue 24 as more of a “guest questionnaire.”
If you’re not fully prepared to drop over $100 on dinner or don’t have three hours to embark on the “Journey,” Rogue 24 also has a 14-seat salon featuring à la carte dishes and a menu of handcrafted cocktails. The salon does not require reservations and offers guests a taste of the Rogue 24 experience.
