Travie McCoy | Sat Sept 4 | POP at Fur

Travie McCoy wants to be a billionaire, so freakin’ bad — and, we think he’s on his way.

Tall, dark and handsome, this talented ladies man was born and raised in Geneva, New York, where he met Matt McGinley in his gym class. The duo bonded over a shared love of music and started a band that later became Gym Class Heroes, which burst into the mainstream in 2007 with the No. 1 hit “Cupid’s Chokehold.”

Now, he’s topping the music charts with his own song. “I Want To Be A Billionaire” [watch video].

Standing 6′ 5″ (see, we said he was tall), with loads of charm and charisma (and a hot collection of tattoos), Travie is one of music’s most recognized celebrities, which is why it’s no surprise that he’s dated several famous gals.

His latest main squeeze was Katy Perry — who he blasts in one of his new songs.

In it, Travie rants about Katy supposedly being with another man and calls her a ‘little brat.’ The song, “Don’t Pretend,” also features lyrics like, ‘Little miss teary eyes you have no reason to lie to me. I finally realize why you can’t look eye to eye with me. And I knew about him the whole time — the hotels, phone calls, psshhh the whole nine.’

Look out, ladies! This guy’s a fireball — who is raking in the big bucks. And, not only does he have one of the hottest new singles on the airwaves, he’s hot and single himself.

See Mr. “Billionaire” in person as POP does FUR — a special Saturday POP edition on Sept. 4, 2010!

You guys ask, we answer. Club Glow is proud to present you with Dutch DJ/producing sensation Afrojack!!!

The question is not how packed Lima Lounge will be. It’s will the roof stay on? Over the past year and a half Nick van de Wall, aka Afrojack, has taken the world of electronic dance music by storm. As previously mentioned, he is at the helm of this new style of dance music taking over the world.

Afrojack is #1 when it comes to squeaky, bass-stretching, crazy house music. Anything he touches turns to gold. And promptly melts because it’s just that freaking hot! He also, however, has managed to maintain a progressive/more traditional house vibe on various tracks including ‘Bungee’ w/Bobby Burns, ‘Louder Than Words’ with David Guetta and ‘Pacha on Acid.’

Thursday night at Lima Lounge is guaranteed to be a, pardon our French, complete and utter shit-show. So lose the pointy-toed shoes, get out your sneakers and be prepared to get wild because Afrojack is coming!!!

Bio

Music was his first love since day one, although it didn’t manifest until his fifth year, when he started playing piano. Being a very creative student, Afrojack spent most of his time listening to all kinds of music while studying. To no surprise it didn’t take him long to turn the tables around and start to make music instead of just listening to it.

At the age of 11, Afrojack downloads a program called Fruity loops. At this point in time his talent and passion for creating music truly surfaces. Rapidly acquainting himself with and appreciating Fruity Loops, it becomes his program of choice, which he uses to this day.
Afrojack finishes school and decides to proceed with his musical carrier. Not being able to make a living out of it yet, he starts to work part-time in bars and catering. Now he has more than enough time to discover the club scene in Rotterdam, starting with his first night out in the old club Las Palmas when he was only 16 years old. After this many club nights, side-jobs, small DJ-gigs for the fun of deejaying and a lot of studio time followed.

In 2006 he sets off to Crete (Greece) deejaying for five full months straight in every club that will have him, learning the craft and making his first ‘flight hours’. It was also in Crete where he landed his first small hit, called “F*ck Detroit”. When returning home to the Netherlands, he’s still fired up and makes some more tracks, and is determined to get it out on a label. With a little help from Sidney Samson and Laidback Luke, Digidance decides to give it a shot, and it worked; “Afrojack – In Your Face” scored no. 60 in the Dutch top100 and no. 3 in the Dutch dance top30. Not too bad for the first release of an 18 year old kid.

In 2007 Nick starts performing under the name Afrojack, determined to proceed to the top as a DJ and producer. Track after track and remix after remix follow. Afrojack is rarely seen outside of his studio. When he’s not deejaying, he is producing and it starts to pay off. His tracks get played and massively supported by international DJ’s like David Guetta, Josh Wink, Dave Clarke, Laidback Luke, Fedde Le Grand, Marco V and national DJ’s like Chuckie , DJ Benny Rodrigues, Erick E, Roog and Sidney Samson. Just to name a few.

In 2007 Afrojack starts his own record label, Wall Recordings (exclusively for Beatport and Juno). A whole bunch of quality releases soon follow (Don’t Be, Proper Introduction, Thief etc.)

In 2008 he hits the clubs with “Math” and “Do My Dance” and again both tracks get picked up by every big name in the industry. Afro hooks up with Partysquad and a couple of weeks later, a “Drop down (do my dance)” co-op mix is born and hits the Dutch top 20, and gets crowned “Tune of the Week” by the biggest Dutch radio stations, and even the biggest Dutch music television network “TMF”. He also appears at many festivals. To name a few: Mystery Land, Tomorrowland (Belgium), Extrema Outdoor and Sensation

Afrojack’s popularity is rising internationally. He is considered to be a genius producer and creates a series of collaboration with international artists like David Guetta, Diplo, Kid Cudi, Chuckie, Laidback Luke and Steve Angello. Most of his tracks are featured on beatport.com.

Respected by his colleague DJ’s for his production talent and skills and loved by clubbers for his dancefloor bombs and energetic performances, Afrojack sets a new standard in the industry and is here to stay.

Sean Tyas

It just warms our hearts to see Sean Tyas climibing in the world rankings. He entered the DJ Mag top 100 at 54 in 2008, climbed to 45 in 2009, and this year, with all the touring he’s done, it’s almost scary to think where he’s headed.

A local act from NYC, Sean relocated to Switzerland a few years ago in order to better hone his skills as a trance DJ. Apparently it worked! With productions like ‘Lift,’ and the recent ‘Seven Weeks,’ as well as ridiculous remixes of ‘Shipwrecked,’ and Tiesto’s ‘Suburban Train,’ Sean Tyas has established himself as a true savant when it comes to trance production.

2010 sees Sean heading up his new Tytanium imprint and working on his first artist-album. He has also been touring like madman doing Trance Energy gigs everywhere. The world knows Sean Tyas intimately, it’s time we did too.

Des McMahon

Des McMahon has been making serious waves in the past year. His releases on Kubik, Stampgevaar and CGI garnered praise from the likes of John Askew, Tom Colontionio, Mark Sherry, Adam Foley and Will Atkinson. His recent “Rainmaker/Crack the Whip” EP on Discover Records is currently supported by John O’Callaghan, Simon Patterson, Aly & Fila, Tyas, Askew, Colontonio and more. “Rainmaker” is destroying clubs in Ibiza as we speak! The Philly native and rising junior at American University will bring a mix of funky techno, lush progressive and driving trance to the big room at Fur!

The Crystal Method (yes, named after what you think they’re name after) has been one of the clear-cut leaders in electronic music on a worldwide scale. They pretty much started a sound that became synonymous with 90’s ‘techno’ music. Together with The Prodigy, The Crystal Method composed the theme to the Matrix, that should give you a pretty good idea of what we mean.

Last year’s “Divided by Night,” album featured guest appearances by the likes of Matisyahu, LMFAO, Justin Warfield and Peter Hook. It proves that in the world of EDM, if you got skills they will ALWAYS shine through.

The last time they were at Glow (with MSTRKRFT) it was off the charts. People everywhere, bodies pulsing, utter madness. Saturday night is going to be nuts!! But hey, Glow on Crystal Method will do that.

DJ George Garcia

DJ George Garcia is just like a fortune cookie.

He’s sweet. He smells good. And, he’s full of crunchy goodness.

So, when we heard he would be returning to Washington, D.C., to spin at Ultrabar’s Chroma this Friday night, we just couldn’t wait to crack him open to see what’s inside. …

A few years ago, George hung up his soccer cleats, picked up his headphones and started DJing. He says he’d found a new way to entertain the masses. Just as he loved making moves on the soccer field, he realized that he loved the thrill of making people move on the dance floor even more.

“It’s all about the house music … always will be,” he says.

And, with George, it has been “all about the the house music” — since he was a young boy.

“At the young age of 13, I began DJing alongside friends for graduation parties, sweet sixteen events, bar mitzvahs, weddings and house parties. As I grew older, I began to perform and travel to different places, performing at private events and competitions to develop recognition for the sole purpose of providing people with a reason to move and dance.”

In 2006, George enrolled at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., which is where he gained experience, spinning at some of the hottest nightclubs in the Nation’s Capital — such as K Street, Lotus, Five and Indebleu. He says the way Washingtonian crowds embraced him motivated him “to produce the energy that he does with his music.”

Now, back in his hometown of New York City, he maintains residencies at the trendy lounge La Zarza, and consistently spins gigs at nationally recognized venues, such as MarqueeHudson Terrace, Room Service, Greenhouse and Aspen Social Club.

Which brings us to a very important issue at hand. …

Since George is spinning — in the District of Columbia this weekend — what does our fortune hold for us this Friday night at Chroma (the VIP level at Ultrabar)?

“You will party your ass off with DJ George Garcia this Friday.”

Wait — we’d like to repeat that fortune with a twist.

“You will party your ass off with DJ George Garcia this Friday … in bed.”

RSVP NOW!

** RSVP FOR THIS ONE-TIME EVENT HERE **

Listen to his latest mix [Summer Prescription by DJ George Garcia], then check out the photos we nabbed of him — doing all kinds of things — in the gallery. Also, visit him on MySpace, Twitter, Facebook and in the club this Friday night!

(Thanks to Kelly Ann Collins for the original article)

And, yes, that really is a pic of him … in bed.

Don Diablo | Thursday August 12 at Glow at Lima

Opening Set by Jon Deke

1401 K St NW Washington DC

As a producer, singer, MC… scratch that. As an entertainer, Don Diablo has been making some extreme waves ever since inking a deal with Sony in 2008. He worked on the Public Enemy “Bring the Noise/Give it Up” remix project with Ferry Corsten and Benny Benassi. Benny ended up winning a Grammy for the remix.

Some cool facts about Don Diablo:

He works alone in the studio… because he prefers to work in the nude. That’s right, homeboy sits in front his mixer butt ass naked and produces MONSTERS (no pun intended!!)

He won the award for “Best Dressed Man of the Year” in 2007 by Esquire Magazine.

If you want to buy him a drink while he’s spinning make sure it’s milk. That’s all he drinks during a performance!!

MTV shot a documentary on Don’s work for Dance4Life, a UN sponsored campaign to fight against HIV and AIDS in Africa.

And now you know… Slick like a gato, straight outta GQ, a humanitarian and wild ass electro-hop master. See you on Thursday!!!!
