Tiësto’s Club Life Tour at the DC Armory

Saturday April 9, 2011

The partnership between Tiësto and Glow extends as far back as 2001’s Superglow massive. DC experienced the 2003 Nyana Tour and numerous In Search of Sunrise events. They brought DC nightlife to its knees with the 2007 Elements of Life outdoor event, drawing nearly 8,000 people. In 2009 Tiësto brought an LED concert set-up to the stage at Fur Nightclub. Most recently he brought his Kaleidoscope Remixed tour to DC for a no frills party… the calm before the storm.

“It’s been great to see Tiësto grow from our first event, to packing the clubs, to the outdoor show, one of our proudest moments, and now coming full circle to this. Tiësto outdoors was groundbreaking for DC Nightlife. This time it will be more impressive!”
– Antonis Karagounis, Panorama Productions, Glow Owner

Opened in 1941, the DC Armory is Washington, D.C.’s auditorium, arena, big top and ballroom. The Armory can be adapted to audiences of varying sizes from 10 to 10,000 people and its interior features nearly 70,000 square feet of exhibition space. The Armory is the home of the DC National Guard and administered by the Washington Convention and Sports Authority

Best Known For: Wild, crazy, fucking reckless parties!!!!

Steve Angello is a dance music rock star and this spring he’s boarding a bus set to roll through the USA and Canada. It’s the 2011 Size Matters North American Bus Tour getting down and dirty…rock n’ roll style! Complete with custom stage and lighting set ups.

The tour kicks off with a series of special Size Matters events in Miami and Steve’s much-anticipated appearance with Swedish House Mafia at Masquerade Motel Miami on March 26. There’s no rest for the wicked as Steve then hops on the Size bus for a jaunt up the eastern seaboard. It all ends with Steve headlining the Sahara Tent at Coachella.

Along for the ride are Steve’s brother, AN21, and Max Vangeli. The 3 artists combined to produce the potential tune of the year – Pendulum – The Island (Angello, AN21, Vangeli Remix). The last time Max spun at Glow he painted Lima Lounge with groovy, melodic house thrillers.

Steve Angello’s sets will be packed with his own recent productions including “Open Your Eyes,” a massive collaboration with Alex Metric and the track Pete Tong called “so large it needs its own festival”. There will be no shortage of the freshest tunes out there for Steve’s fans to hear first!

{tab=About Size}

Steve Angello needs little introduction. Most people will be aware that he is 33.3% of the Swedish House Mafia – the in your face and in demand elite collective of Sweden’s house music bad boys; Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso. They are now bona fide pop stars with their recent debut ‘One’ reaching a top 10 position and ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ breaking into the top 5.

What many people forget is that each DJ from the Swedish collective also has their own solo career and respective record label. It is less well known that Steve Angello is also the chief A&R and level headed label boss of his own imprint SIZE, which has gained much Kudos and credibility over the past few years. Over the last 12 months he has enjoyed a string of Beatport top 10’s including 2 x No. 1’s. {tab=Video}

Michael Woods

Diffused Music

Opening Set by Roberto Gonzalez

Thursday March 24, 2011
Lima Lounge 1401 K St NW
Washington, DC 20005

Doors Open at 10pm, Ages 18+

{tab=Show Preview}

From: London, UK

Style: Tech–driven, progressive vibes; tough, uplifting and energetic; ‘hands-in-the-air’ music

Famous Tracks: Dominos, Deadmau5 & Chris Lake – I Said (Michael Woods Remix), Deadmau5 – Strobe (Michael Woods Remix), Dynamik, Drop Zone, No Access

Best Known For: Running the Diffused Music label, getting remix work from Deadmau5, producing some of the best gritty, uplifting progressive house on the market.

Michael Woods, like Toolroom founder Mark Knight, not only runs his own label, but has worked to carve out his own niche in house music. Uplifting like Avicii and Axwell, bouncy with a little tech like Mark Knight, pushing forward like Deadmau5; Michael Woods has managed to distinguish his sound from all others… he has Diffused.

The ‘Diffused Music experience’ promises all the thrills and great ‘hands-in-the-air’ tracks that you crave while bringing the idea of elegant but epic music to the masses.

This is the dynamic force that clubs worldwide are raring for and Michael Woods and his Diffused sound are ready to raise the bar for House music to an all-time high with explosive force, undeniable talent and tough, uplifting music.

{tab=Bio}
Genius can be measured in a number of ways: ability, originality and accomplishment. In Michael’s short career he has managed to touch on every cornerstone, leaving proof of his musical competence at producing big room, progressive and tech-house tracks, along with a discernible motivation to better the quality of music being distributed. This has not gone unnoticed, with DJs like Pete Tong jumping at the chance to document Michael’s rise, featuring him on shows such as Radio 1’s 15 minutes of Fame.

From Argentinean & Guyanese decent, he was born and raised in Hackney London which he still calls home running his studio from there. Classically trained in a range of instruments at an early age provided Michael with a catalogue of creative skills including the keys—which he learned to play at the tender age of 3—guitar, drums and trumpet, practically making him a one man band. When not in the studio messing around with Cubase developing his craft, he would be found at Pimlico’s Trinity Music College where he contracted a love for musicality, often using his spare time orchestrating with the percussion section of the London Symphony Orchestra. Earlier achievements include the Michael Woods Remix of Energy 52’s Café Del Mar which held pride of place on the acclaimed Chilled Ibiza Gold Album and is a prime example of the ever growing popularity of the Woods marque. It has never ceased to be continually played and is still considered a classic among DJs and fans alike.

Collaboration’s with the likes of Chris Lake on Domino’s are proof of his skillful production abilities. These, however, are not the sole examples of his talent; many established artists have hired Mr Woods to renovate their sound into a style which emulates Michael’s musical vision. His remixes include Feels Like A Prayer on Toolroom Records, Deadmau5’s Strobe on mau5trap, Deadmau5 & Chris Lake with I Said as well as the more mainstream artists: Adele, Nate James, Xenomania signing Gabriella Cilmi, The Temper Trap, Way Out West and more recently, Estelle (I Can Be A Freak). Each have turned to Michael to help send shock waves through the music world with their sound, upping his status as a respected artist, track-after-track. His ability to rework music with an exceptionally sharp ear for quality production has left him in high regard with many artists and labels across the industry, with direct Tweets from the likes of Tiesto hailing his skill as one of the many examples.

Diffused Music has become his major priority since he founded the label in September 2008. Using it as a platform from which to promulgate his perfected sound, the label has released numerous acclaimed records: Yemba, Dropzone and the Envolver EP. As Michael’s career continues to escalate he has lined up countless events to build on his current success, touring with Deadmau5, setting a number of UK based gigs and also earning a coveted residency spot at one of the most sought after places in the clubbing realm, Cream’s Amnesia in Ibiza. Along with Mark Knights Toolroom Knights events and Pete Tongs Wonderland, the Woods fan base and clientele continues to sky rocket. It is apparent that this is not the height of his creativity, but rather a preview into what assuredly will be an illustrious career.{tab=Video}

{tab=Show Preview}

From: Sweden (both of em)

Style: John: Uplifting, Techy, Bang Out House. Albin: Dirty, uplifting, progressive, AWESOME house music

Famous Tracks: John: Blink, Don’t Speak, Pyramid. Albin: Times Like These, I Amsterdam, David Guetta & Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over (Albin Myers Remix), There 4 You

Best Known For: John: Cool beats, unusual melodies, characteristic vocals. Albin: The mohawk, a kick ass YouTube channel. Both Together: Switching between 1st person shooters and production work

He’s from Sweden and spins house music… but John Dahlback has more than carved out his own place in the Swedish dance music pecking order. Known for his techy yet melodic, sometimes disco-esque basslines; Dahlback rips dance floors apart with a style that everyone can vibe with.

2010 marked the release of his 2xCD ‘Mutants’ album (October) as well a recent remix for Benny Benassi (December). Mutants is also the name of his new label, an imprint on the infamous Defected Records.

He’s from Sweden and spins house music as well… but Albin Meyers is more than carving out his own place in the Swedish dance music pecking order. Hmmm… interesting. After watching his YouTube channel, Club Glow became instance fans of Albin’s music, personality, and yes, the mohawk.

Seeing the two of them together is like watching a magician pull a rabbit from a hat while telling a hilarious joke and hooking you up with backstage passes at the same time. Pretty awesome…{tab=Bio}
JOHN DAHLBACK
Growing up with a drumming father and singing mother, I’ve always been attracted by different sounds which developed into my own music. I guess rather than going to parties all the time I’d rather use the energy every day to go to the studio early in the morning and leave late afternoon.

Creating a song with lyrics, that don’t always make sense as the hook (!), my career took another step. Take “Blink” which means a lot for me, being as different as I wanted it to be, it made it onto radio, TV and put my name on the list which I’m really grateful for. So where could I go from there I thought, well, I just keep doing what I love and stick to my own sound. The new album which will be out after the summer, which funny enough is my sixth, I’ve done everything on it I’ve always wanted to. Cool beats, unusual melodies and characteristic vocals, I guess summarize me as a person.

Defected has always been one of my favorite labels and working with them is an honor. So now it’s time to finally start releasing music from the album, and on my own new label Mutants, I feel proud that I’ve done it. Hopefully you’ll also enjoy it as much as I do and want to thank you for being there, giving me your feedback and supporting me.

ALBIN MYERS
Being brought up in a family with theatre & music as the first and foremost love, it is easy to understand the will and driving force behind Albin Myers’ music. When he teamed up with Swedish label Joia Records in 2008, Albin got the great chance to remix some of the biggest artists and projects in the contemporary Dance Music scene, such as David Guetta & Kelly Rowland, Erick Morillo, Tom Novy, EDX, John Dahlbäck and Greg Cerrone to name a few…

When it comes to Albin Myers DJing, it definitely something you have to see. With the greatest energy behind the decks, using his whole body to express the music, Albin gets his crowds dancing in no time!

As Albin now breaks ground with his own releases such as “Times Like These”,”There 4 You”, “Jump” &” Romani Beats” and with original productions for Serial, Pickadoll and the UK’s own Defected, the future looks even brighter than the recent past for this high-flying artist.{tab=Video}
