The grand opening of The Fillmore in Silver Spring will feature arguably the most accomplished singer in the past two decades: Mary J. Blige!
With nine Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards, and eight multi-platinum albums under her belt, Mary J. Blige is also the only artist with Grammy Award wins in Pop, Rap, Gospel, and R&B. On Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 100 greatest singers of all-time, she closes out the list at #100.
With 23,000 square feet of floor space and a 2,000 person capacity, The Fillmore is gearing up to be one of the area’s premier concert venues!
Blige has sold over 50 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide. This coming October, she is scheduled to release her 10th studio album, My Life II: The Journey Continues. It will be a sequel to her 1994 debut album, My Life, which ranks in at #279 on Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest albums of all-time. She is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to producing hits!
Known for her R&B, soul, and hip hop songs, some of her popular songs include “Family Affair,” her performance of “One” with U2, “Someone to Love Me,” and “Be Without You,” among others.
Redskins Season Opener vs. NY Giants at FedEx Field (9/11)
No lockout: the NFL season is here!
4:15 PM — Sunday, September 11, 2011
FedEx Field

Landover, MD 20785

The Washington Redskins are back in action at FedEx Field for their NFL season opener against the NY Giants!
In their second year with head coach Mike Shanahan after going 6-10 last season , the Redskins are pushing for their first winning season since 2007. Over the course of a productive off-season, the Skins have added many significant players to the lineup, especially on defense:
In (offense): WRs Donte’ Stallworth, Jabar Gaffney, and RB Tim Hightower
In (defense): DT Barry Cofield, DE Stephen Bowen, CB Josh Wilson, and safety O.J. Atogwe
Out: Donovan McNabb, Albert Haynesworth, and Clinton Portis
Re-Signed: Santana Moss
“We don’t need people saying we’re the best right now, but when it’s all said and done, I really feel like this team’s gonna win the East.”
— QB Rex Grossman —
In spite of Grossman’s optimism, the Redskins still ranked in at #29 in ESPN’s pre-season power rankings. There are many questions surrounding how the Redskins will fare this year, including:
- Will the Skins prove ESPN wrong?
- Where will coach Mike Shanahan take the Skins in his second year with the team?
- Who will win the QB battle: an established Rex Grossman or the hopeful John Beck ?
- Is the defense going to step up after its many off-season changes?
- Are they capable of winning the NFC East for the first time since 1999?
As the Skins are tossing the pigskin and you’re passing the guacamole, these questions will soon be answered!
