And now, with attention firmly turned to the studio, it’s fair to say Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey have launched a veritable assault on the music scene in recent months.Currently focusing on everything from breaks to ragga and dubstep, their ever-eclectic style rings true with each track they unleash.

REID SPEED (NYC/LA, Play Me Records / Play Me Too)

Reid Speed has been a dance floor destroyer for over a decade and is recognized worldwide for her skillful ability to throw down all genres of bass music in transcendental manner. She is now most known for helming the Play Me Records and Play Me Too brands.

In just over 2 years, Play Me Records and Play Me Too have indisputably taken the Beatport charts by storm, with a string of #1, top 10s, and nearly every release charting in the top 100.

ORIGINAL SIN (Drum & Bass / Dubstep / Playaz Recordings / Image Muzik)

While some may not be familiar with the name Original Sin, all will become clear when you realize that this is the new production alias of none other than Adam Tindall, one half of the undisputed kings of Jump Up Drum & Bass, G Dub.

From now on, G Dub is no more and Original Sin is the future for Adam. The ridiculously heavy ‘Don’t Be Silly’ and his remix of Shy FX’s classic Ebony Dubsters track ‘Rah’ have gone a long way to stamping his individual mark on the Drum & Bass scene, and there’s no signs of slowing down.

Me Like Coldplay, Good to Dance!

Remixes Better Than Originals?

Most recently, Swedish House Mafia’s epic remix of ‘Every Teardrop is a Waterfall’ has ignited dance floors and festivals across the world.

Is Coldplay opening up to club music, or is club music welcoming Coldplay?

Indie rock as a whole is coming under the wing of dance music. We’ve noticed an increasing number of indie bands embracing their sudden integration into electronic dance music.

Empire of the Sun | The Temper Trap | The xx | The Killers | Florence and the Machine | Bloc Party

Coldplay has taken up the top club remix residence!

  • Tiesto was rocking a mashup of Colplay’s ‘Fix you’ and Alesso’s remix of ‘Pressure.’
  • Mike Posner recently released a dubstep remix of ‘The Scientist.’
  • DJs on every level from Gabriel & Dresden to Royksopp have reworked ‘Clocks.’
  • Morgan Page did a chill-out remix of ‘White Shadows’ as well.

The takeover of dance music was inevitable. Coldplay’s mainstream appeal clearly advances house music’s growing influence on dance music in America. As soon as a DJ mixes in a familiar Coldplay classic, the crowd goes wild as lead vocalist Chris Martin’s soulful voice reaches past the bass line, into the crowd.

They’re everywhere!

Coldplay – Fix You (PEST Remix)
Coldplay – Clocks (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
Coldplay – Talk (Dave Audé Remix)

Coldplay vs. Starkillers, Alex Kenji, Nadia Ali – Fix Your Pressure (East & Young Mashup)
Coldplay – The Scientist (Mike Posner Remix)
Coldplay – Clocks (Fedde Le Grand Remix)

Tiësto Makes Billboard Cover: Brings Dance Music to the World

Tiesto Billboard Cover
Courtesy: billboard.com

Named “The Greatest DJ of all Time” by Mixmag, Tiësto has more accomplishments than many small countries .. and some not-so-small ones. He’s played for a 250,000+ person event, traveled the world, received a Grammy nomination, won MTV awards, played for the Olympics, is cast in a wax statue, and so much more. His tour in 2010 was named among the top 25 grossing tours (of 2010) in the world; traveling over 6 continents, playing for over a million people, and holding 175 dates over 15 months is no joke.

Over the years, electronic dance music (EDM) has been intertwined with other musical genres and subcultures that, at least in the United States, don’t normally reach the mainstream surface. Tiësto, through brilliantly designed light shows and amazing performances, has helped revamp the thinking of millions over the years. In the process, he managed to captivate the world. EDM was no longer a genre reserved for few but has become a music for the masses. Cracking into mainstream America isn’t so easy but, with collaborations, a show to entertain the masses, and reinvention over time, Tiësto has accomplished just that for himself and for dance music the world over. On April 9, 2011 Washington, DC got to see the magic that is Tiësto firsthand when he played a 10,000 person concert at DC Armory for Club Glow.

It doesn’t get too much bigger than landing the cover of Billboard Magazine however, and Tiësto has done just that. Overshadowing names like Maroon 5, Aguilera, and more, Tiësto sits confidently on the cover of Billboard in a desolate environment with stone, sand, mountains, dead plants, records, and a his headphones. To the left of his name reads simply and accurately “The Only Arena DJ in the World.” With a serious face, a look of determination, and a faint smile it speaks that he has made it through continued hard work and determination. Music is universal in this world, and Tiësto has brought, directly or indirectly, dance music to the masses. This metamorphosis of the club music scene is so massive that it’s attracting big names to sponsor his new Club Life: Campus Invasion tour beginning September 15. Axe, Armani Exchange, Heineken, Sandisk, and Playstation ring any bells? They’re household names just like Tiësto. The tour will conclude with a record breaking 26,000 person show at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California: the biggest single-headliner DJ Concert in US history.

The story behind it all:

In 1999, partners Antonis Karagounis and original resident DJ Pete Kalamoutsos launched Glow at Zei club. Their venue partner was Zei Director of Promotions Dave Karim. The venture lasted until Zei’s closing in 2001.

Antonis and Dave were reunited a year later at the legendary MCCXXIII where they hosted a Tuesday college party for the next 7 years. Pete took over a residency at Spank, the club’s VIP as level.

Since 2005 Karagounis has been a partner in top DC nightlife destinations including Lima Restaurant & Lounge, Ultrabar Nightclub, and Barcode Restaurant & Lounge. Karim went on to open Josephine, Policy, Current and Lost Society. Kalamoutsos cemented relationships with the top DJs and booking agencies in dance music.

The Glow brand gained international recognition in 2010 when Armin van Buuren and David Guetta officially named Glow events their favorite in the world. A recent partnership with Live Nation now allows Glow to expand its reach to the US mainstream.

Given the history, combined with dance music’s emerging mainstream appeal; the concept of Glow Fridays at Josephine was inevitable. This September three entrepreneurs of DC nightlife reunite to bring one of the world’s best parties to one of DC’s finest lounges.

New Album from David Guetta w/ Crazy Collaborations!

David Guetta is set to release his latest album, Nothing But the Beat, at the end of August 2011!!

Disc 1

Collaborations w/ Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Usher, will.i.am, Akon, Chris Brown and more!

Disc 2

“100% electronic, no vocals,” according to the French DJ/Producer.

The first two singles, “Where Them Girls At” featuring Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida and “Little Bad Girl” featuring Taio Cruz and Ludacris, were both released this summer!

Guetta, the DC nightlife favorite who chose Club Glow as his favorite worldwide venue of 2010, hopes to finish Nothing But the Beat in early July, admitting “I’m a little bit late to tell you the truth.” You can watch a live 30-minute interview with Guetta by Billboard here!

David Guetta also stated that Nicki Minaj will be featured in a second track on the album, titled “Turn Me On.” While she may be known for her “crazy raps,” said Guetta, she will actually be featured on this track as a singer. “The world is gonna be shocked.”

Although Guetta isn’t crossing paths in the studio with music icons U2, Britney Spears or Madonna, Nothing But the Beat is expected to be one of the biggest pop-house crossover albums ever. As one of the biggest pioneers in this mainstream dance genre, the two-time Grammy Award winning Guetta has been and will continue blazing trails for electronic dance music in America!
