Intimate yet spacious. Around every corner patrons will find hidden lounge areas for a quick escape. With all the different levels, it’s hard to nail down how many floors the venue is, which we love. At the top of Ozio sits a vibrant rooftop servicing two bars, VIP, more lounges and a high-end crowd that came to have a good time
Venue Overview

From the outside, Ozio seems to be a small, seemingly regular bar/lounge. The beautiful, well-dressed, diverse crowd waiting to get in says otherwise. The first floor allows patrons the luxury of smoking at the bar, provides ample booth seating and features the bar tending expertise (and trickery) of Ozio’s owner. A walk-in humidor cements the suave appeal of the venue. It’s the calm before the storm above.

As patrons ascend a wide, wrapping staircase, they are met with the first of Ozio’s many splits. To the left is a high-end cigar bar with a menu consisting of Arturo Fuentes (incl. Opus X) , Ashtons, Cohibas, C.A.O.s, Macanudos, Monte Cristos, Romeo & Julietas and a host of others, including the Padron Anniversario. It’s a level frequented by diplomats, businesspeople and young professionals alike. At the end of the bar and around a corner exists the first of many hidden lounges at Ozio. A descending staircase leads patrons into the 2nd row house, revealing exposed brick, artwork and spacious yet intimate couch settings.

From intimate nooks to a debaucherous rooftop, Ozio has it all!

Should you hang a right when arriving at the second floor, you’ll find a dance floor, bar and DJ booth at the far end of the room, and a gateway to the rooftop above. This gateway, another of Ozio’s levels, features a large table area and a mini staircase leading to another low key, spacious lounge area.

The proper stamp allows party goers access to Washington DC’s newest rooftop bar. Encased in an ever changing spectrum of club lights, scattered trees and two bars, Ozio’s rooftop provides a completely different atmosphere to the bars and lounges below. Featuring house music and outdoor bottle service, the Ozio rooftop club is DC nightlife’s newest gem. Packed with an attractive and refreshingly unpretentious crowd, it’s a great place to spend your weekend hours. Moving across the roof you’ll be met with more of Ozio’s famous elegant lounge and VIP areas. They are inside but feature open air hallways to the roof.

Lil’ Jon DJs, Chats and Causes Turbulence at Ultrabar DC – PoP TV!

Lil Jon’s return to the booth has been a long time coming. His DJ set at Ultrabar Nightclub in Washington DC was nuts. The Don Julio and Hennessy flowed like the Nile, the girls, well… you can watch the video. DC nightlife was out in full force and loved every minute of it!

In our official interview, we talked with Jon about what The Donald is really like, his son’s future in the music industry and more! We learned that Jon has held nearly every position in the business, from DJ and Artist to A&R, manager, and more! And once you hear him talk you’ll see, he’s one of the more intelligent personalities in the rap game.

Pop Nightlife at Ultrabar happens every Friday. It’s one of the biggest events on Fridays in DC. With 4 floors, 2 mezzanines, 6 bars, VIP and guest list options, it’s no wonder why artists like Chachi, Enferno and Scene continue to return! Check out the event line ups and come out on Saturday for Ladies Night!

Guetta drops Diddy-Dirty Money (Dirty South) + Better off Alone (Laidback Luke)

Some raw footage of DC nightlife going bonkers at Club Glow at Fur Nightclub as David Guetta, who voted the DC party best venue of 2010, drops Alice Deejay – Better Off Alone (Laidback Luke Remix) and mixes it into Diddy – Dirty Money featuring Skylar Grey – Coming Home (Dirty South Remix).

The infamous Alice Deejay was a Dutch EDM group who made it big with their 1999 hit ‘Better off Alone.’ It reached #3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and #27 on the Billboard Hot 100. Rapper Wiz Khalifa sampled it in his 2008 single ‘Say Yeah’ which goes to show that… well, we’ll let you come to your conclusions.

If anyone could re-vive a hit like that it’s Laidback Luke!

P. Diddy’s foray into dance music was inevitable, although the pairing with Dirty South has been a nice surprise. The original was co-written and co-produced by Jay-Z. Dragan’s Coming Home remix has given the track credibility amongst fans of electronic music.

With David Guetta behind the decks at Club Glow Washington DC, dropping tracks by Luke and Dirty South to the DC nightlife audience only further strengthens dance music’s grasp on the casual club goer and American mainstream crowd.

Opera Ultra Lounge DC: Sneak Preview & brief lesson in DC nightclub history

Opera Ultra Lounge Washington DC nightlife
Opera Ultra Lounge Washington DC. 1400 I st NW.

As the DC nightlife scene continues to grow and mature, more places are opening up to appeal to the lounge scene.  Opera Ultra Lounge is set to be one of those great new spots, with an opening date set for the first week in June, though it’s not set in stone.

While still under construction, Opera is designed to be a unique lounge with a positive and upscale atmosphere and vibe, with emphasis on service.   The space was designed by Francois Frossard, a famed nightclub/lounge designer that has laid out some of the most lavish nightclubs in Miami like Set, Mansion, Privie, and ArKadia.  This means very modern and stylish decor, interesting furniture, futurisic layout, bright colors, and a very cool vibe.

Construction continues on Opera Ultra Lounge Washington DC

Their sound and lights are being done by Baha Design Group, the same people who did Policy and Josephine in DC.  Since Opera is planning to have DJ events and live music events, this means it’ll be done right with good strong sound, elegant lighting, and cool effects.  All without being overbearing or ridiculous.

Opera is also located in the neighborhood that was beginning of the nightlife scene in DC.  For those who have been around the DC nightlife scene for a while, its a very significant and nostalgic neighborhood. 14th and I was the center of everything.

Diva Nightclub, Zei Club, and Spy Club.  Those were the only places in DC for real nightlife back in the 90s.  Sure, there was Georgetown and Adams Morgan, but those were bars, not nightclubs or serious lounges. The only other real clubs at the time were Vault (which became Babylon, Casbah, Home, and is now Ultrabar), 5th column, and DC Live.  That’s it.  14th and I is the place where modern DC nightlife was born.

But one place in particular within the 14th & I neighborhood stands out from the rest in DC clubbing history: Spy Club.  It was the spot where most of the DC promoters turned owners got their starts.  Masoud A (Lima, Vetro), Antonis Karagounis (Barcode, Lima, Ultrabar), Marc Barnes (Love, Park), Mike Romeo (Fur, Lotus, Tattoo, Midtown, Dirty Martini), Charles Zhou (Eden, Muse), Andre Demoya (Eyebar which later became Eden) all got their start in DC as promoters at Spy.

When Spy club shut down, Karagounis just went a few doors down to Zei club, where Rob Alanis (Current lounge) was General Manager, and Dave Karim (Current, Josephine, Lost Society) was a managing partner.

This is also the spot where Glow, the center of the mainstream electronic music scene in the mid-atlantic, got its start with Pete Moutso and Guest DJ George Acosta on October 5th, 1999.  Karagounis had heard Acosta spinning in Shadow Lounge in Florida, and knew he had to book him.  Acosta ripped up the crowd that Moutso and Karagounis has built up, and Glow was born.

glow at zei club in 2001
An original flyer from the old days at Glow at Zei

Who would’ve thought that 12 years later, they’d become the center of the EDM world in the mid-atlantic, booking the biggest artists in the world regularly twice a week.  Its hard to imagine this random weekly party grew into an organization that puts on massive shows with Tiesto and 10,000 fans, and huge music festivals with 22,000+ people and 24 major EDM artists.  Its grown to be the favorite party of both Armin van Buuren and David Guetta.

…and it all started right here in the historic 14th & I neighborhood.
