  • Atmosphere: Little Miss Whiskey’s has a New Orleans voodoo meets biker bar meets metal feel. Dim purple lights and hard rock/metal billings on the wall are a nice touch. Of course the weekend crowd is full of young people, hipsters, etc. The music is funky and the best of 80’s and 90’s. It’s a chill dive bar with a dance floor. Downstairs is calm, upstairs can get wild.
Venue Overview

Walking into Little Miss Whiskey’s on H Street is like walking into a low key new orleans bar for metal heads and bikers. The dim purple lights, slayer and pantera billings and voodoo skulls on the wall in the back give it an eerie yet somehow inviting vibe. Probably because there aren’t any bikers or voodoo priests, just hipsters and other H-street types. The beer selection is huge and the vibe is chill.

The back of the first floor has bathrooms with a long row of barbershop chairs. We thought that was pretty awesome. But not as awesome as the effort they must have put into finding the perfect decorations!
H Street bars and clubs Washington DC

Heading through a cased-off door and up the stairs brings you to a 2nd bar, raised DJ booth and dance floor with levels at the back. Unlike Sticky Rice, this H Street location is more of a place to dance and hook up (if you’re lucky). Then again, you could chill downstairs. It’s a pretty awesome spot if you’re looking for a club alternative.

The outdoor patio features a gothic garden fountain, a bathtub full of bubbles, gold plates hanging on one side of the fence, and flowers on the other. It’s pretty nice. The only thing is that their agreement with the neighbors is that the patio has to reamin ‘civil’ after Midnight.

Parties

1st & 3rd Wednesdays: Kostume Karaoke w/ Debbi Arseneaux
2nd & 4th Wednesdays: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: Alternative music from the 80’s.
4th Thursdays: Denman: heavy, hair, mean, death, filthy nasty grimy leg-kickin metal.. and ROKK.
1st Fridays: Moneytown w/ DJ Nightkrawler & guests: Old school funk, soul, disco, & boogaloo.

  • Website: www.stickyricedc.com
  • Atmosphere: Sticky Rice’s self-proclaimed “charming atmosphere and bad attitude” have given it a glowing reputation in DC’s H Street Corridor. Its American/Pan-Asian selection of fresh sushi, sandwiches, salads and other entrees make it a foodie favorite.

Sticky Rice’s DC nightlife offering is great! The vibe, the people, the music, it just embodies a great time. Simple and fun. Everyone is smiling, dancing around to feel-good top 40 past and present, doing shots and loving life. It’s a great place to go out as you are and have fun. It’s definitely not big, and sure as sh*t is no club. What it is, is a bar full of happy people.

Venue Overview

Sticky rice is easy to navigate. When you walk in there’s a staircase leading upstairs to a dining area, bathrooms and possibly a back patio. We weren’t sure if that was on or off limits to patrons.

sticky rice h street dc
As you can see, Sticky Rice is just an old fashioned good time!

The main bar area is backed by sinister red lighting, a small standing area that may turn into a dance floor, and in the center, stairs leading to a mid-level sushi bar. At the end of that sushi bar is a little booth. It looks like there should be a bad ass, back door card game going on there.
The upstairs of H Street's Sticky Rice
The space is small and if people are dancing you’re definitely gonna be bumping into people on your way to the bar, to the bathroom or home. It’s all good though, everyone’s nice and well to do.

Parties

Monday: sushi heaven (10:30pm-12:30a)
Tuesday: TBA
Wednesday: blingo … sticky rice’s very own speed bingo (11:00-close)
Thursday: the mighty mighty karaoke
Friday: video djs playing indie rock, pop and hip hop

  • Atmosphere: According to owners Dave Karim and Rich Vasey, Lost Society’s name refers to “the lost art of getting along… We want everyone to feel like they belong.” The diverse, upscale demographic suggests success. The DC restaurant & lounge feels like someone took their very upscale vintage home, put it on U Street and said, “sure, we can party every night!” The crowd is about 25-40, out for a good time but nothing crazy and looks good.
Venue Overview

Lost Society sits in the 2nd and 3rd level of an unassuming building on the corner of 14th and U Street. The ambiance inside is a far cry from the exterior.

Ascending the staircase brings DC foodies into a dining room full of rich colors and plush fabrics. Intimate corners and low light create an intimate yet upbeat atmosphere. A circular bar and southfacing windows provide a nice view of the action on U street.

Head Chef Joseph Evans, formerly of Smith & Wollensky, uses a 1,800 degree broiler to produce some of the best steak in DC!

Lost Society Washington DC steakhouse
A view of 14th and U from the deck at Lost Society. We call it a deck, but its really like a room that happens to be outdoors

The top floor is where the real action is. Designed to contrast with the second level; the white walls, wood floor, wall candles and chandeliers bring a sleek, more modern contrast to the comfort below. With a DJ booth at the end of the room and large deck with its own bar (tented in winter), the top floor of Lost Society is a great choice for going out in DC. The crowd is upscale, diverse and always smiling.

As one fan of the Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington DC put it, “All ya have to do is worry about getting to and from and the rest is taken care of.” While H Street may be a destination DC nightlife neighborhood, it is nonetheless home to a growing, laid back, ‘come as your are’ bar scene.

With a main room outfitted for live concerts, Rock & Roll Hotel serves as a DC concerts destination for indie rock, live funk, hardcore, DJ PAs and just about everything in between. The main room is simple, with a bar to the left, ‘front of house’ set up to the right and stage front and center.

Cannibal Corpse Washington DC Rock & Roll Hotel
Cannibal Corpse rocks out to a packed house at Rock & Roll Hotel!

Venturing upstairs brings the 21+ to a dance party with a lounge to the left, place to shake it in the middle and bar to the back. Beyond are the ‘hotel’ rooms, famous for their cozy, eclectic vibes. Ranging in capacity from 10 – 40, the rooms can be booked or stumbled into, if ya know what we mean! Hang out in the My Bloody Valentine Suite, book The Presidential Suite or post up in Chairman Mao’s Studio.

When it’s not filled with the quirky dance moves of H street all-stars, the 2nd floor serves as a place for R&R’s famous drunk spelling bees and other reckless bar games.

And finally, in the winter of 2011/2012 R&R was finally able to open up it’s heated rooftop for 21+ to enjoy the brisk DC weather! When the summer hits this is going to be the spot to be in the H Street Corridor!

Parties

  • Weekend Dance Parties can and will vary in genre. You could get some funky disco, electro, baltimore club, hip-hop, who knows! Best to call and ask what the DJ is spinning!

Atmosphere: Midtown feels like your cool friend’s party-loft in downtown [insert city here]. It’s got the VIP, super VIP, a nice view of the area in DC its named after, and a nice overall vibe. Lots of bars try too hard to be clubby – Midtown does a nice job of maintaining the proper balance. Every floor maintains the perfect ‘bar with a kick ass dance floor’ feeling. The people are always having a great time!

Venue Overview

A three floor loft perched above the intersection of Connecticut Ave and 18th street NW (across the street from 18th Street Lounge), the only bad thing about going to Midtown is finding parking! Arriving early to the neighborhood that’s very much a hub of DC nightlife is highly recommended.

A bar greets patrons as they walk in to the building’s 2nd floor. A shifting LED backdrop sends a spectrum flashing across the entire wall, from bar, across VIP, to the DJ booth at the end of the room. To the left are bathrooms and a super VIP area which has a 5-6 step staircase leading to it. To the right is a dance floor, VIP on the bar side, a platform with poles for the venue’s adventurous female patrons, and third, semi-raised VIP section.

To the right of the dance floor is a raised VIP section with a private bar and the perfect view of the crowded DC bar action in the streets below. Exposed brick and wood floors give the room an authentic industrial atmosphere.

The intimate Midtown Penthouse, located on the top floor of the building, features a serene, zen-like escape from the dance floor/sporting themed action below. With plush couches, candle light and a statue of Buddha guarding the floor, this area is a nice change of pace.

An inside look at Barcöde, DC’s newest Restaurant, Bar, Lounge!

Barcode Restaurant DC

Located in the heart of the corporate section of downtown DC on the corner of 17th and L, Barcode Restaurant, Bar, Lounge is already creating quite a stir among all the DC Restaurants, DC Bars, and DC Lounges because of its unique nature.  By day, its an upscale restaurant and bar perfect for a quick lunch or happy hour after work.  By night, its a luxurious bar & lounge that’s great as a dinner and cocktails destination or just a place to get wine and cheese.  Late at night, its a great place to lounge, hang out, and party in style.

Inside, you’ll find Marble bartops, Leather seats, 10 HD TVs, Heated outdoor patio, Hardwood accents, Glass walls, LED lighting, and candlelit tables.  With the simple touch of a button, the entire venue changes color as thousands of LEDs throughout the walls, ceilings, and floors change colors, flooding the room with brilliant light in a dazzling display of technology.  And yet even with all these refinements, cutting edge effects, and upscale amenities, its still a place where you can always find the big sports games on the TVs.  Its a place you’ll have to see to believe.

What To Eat
The first thing you’ll notice when you see the barcode menu is that this is no ordinary bar menu.    If you’re looking for something to snack on while watching the game or enjoying a few beers with coworkers, try the Avocado Dip with parmesan cheese, dry tomatoes, and fresh oven bread cracker or the Grilled Calamari with spicy olive oil, roasted garlic, and lemon.  You could also go with a glass of wine and the Fontina Melted Cheese and Fresh Bread.

.
If you’re looking for a real meal, Barcode’s got you covered. Try the Beef Strip Loin or the Grilled Salmon.  Both of which are delicately seasoned and flame grilled to perfection for an intense mouth watering flavor.  The Pesto Pasta is also a great choice, lightly seasoned with basil, its a guaranteed hit.  If you’re up for something simple, get the Barcode Pizza, made the way you like it in our real brick pizza oven from fresh dough made right here at Barcode.

Happy Hour at Barcode is also ridiculous, with Half Price Beer, Wine, and Rail Drinks, the place gets packed with nearby office workers looking to blow off some steam after a long day in the office.  It runs daily from 4pm – 7pm, and has already become a staple in the neighborhood after only a few short weeks.  There’s even a heated outdoor patio to sit back and enjoy with friends when the weather is nice.

DC Lounges, DC Bars

There’s also late night entertainment with DJs and performers playing in the Lounge!  Tuesdays feature Glow Presents: Saeed Younan, Thursdays feature the sounds of Chris Stiles, Fridays showcase DJ Saam, and Saturdays have DJ Kam.  All the nightlife events are strictly 21+,  no dress code, no cover charge. The best part about the late night events is that the Kitchen is open ’till 12am, which means you can drink, party, and dine late into the night!

Barcode is a pretty impressive spot.  Where else in DC can you find a single venue that is a fantastic spot for a quick lunch, then a perfect happy hour bar, then a great dinner and cocktails destination, then a full-fledged bar and lounge?  Only Barcode.
