Venue Overview:

Flash is a new dance venue located in the Shaw District. When you first walk in, the ground floor is a trendy, modern bar with a food menu (currently being updated), and a patio area out front. One of the coolest features of Flash is the photobooth on the first floor. The line to get upstairs to the main room gets a little long sometimes, so the photobooth provides a nice distraction and an awesome way to document the night out with friends. Admission is usually free before 11 pm, after that there is a cover charge of $10-$15 depending on the night.

The main room at Flash nightclub’s upstairs level upstairs isn’t that big – capacity of 200 people – but what Flash lounge lacks in space, they make up for with tasteful decoration and sound. Once you see the DJ booth, you’ll understand why they called the venue Flash; the back wall surrounding the DJ booth is made up entirely of  old camera flash attachments that light up and “flash” during the DJ set.  Flash is also the only nightclub in the District to use Full Fat Audio amplifiers, so the sound is extra loud. If you’re into deep house, tech house, or underground, then Flash is the place for you. The club was recently filled to max capacity for Hot Since 82’s North American tour.

Seating upstairs is plentiful, with booths and tables lining both walls. Be careful with your drinks though, the tables are a little uneven and drinks tend to spill if you put them in the wrong spot. Bottle service is available upon request.

DC Promoter Goes Outside the Box with ‘Rendezvous’

The Competition Will Always Be There

washington dc concert spaces
A view from the prime real estate at NE DC’s year-old Echostage concert venue. It was voted #4 club in America in the 2013 DJ Magazine Top 100 Clubs poll.

Whether you’re into DC bars, lounges or clubs, one thing is clear: They’re all competing to show you a good time. From the no-frills bars on H street and upscale lounges of K, to the variety on U street and reckless EDM nights at Glow; DC is home to a wide range of independent and ‘corporate’ night life businesses.

Most venues and promoters work against each other.

Partnerships do exist, but generally it’s because of shared ownership somewhere. Panorama Productions (Ultrabar, Echostage, Glow, Barcode, Josephine) is trying something different.

Starting this Fall, Panorama will host ‘Rendezvous,’ a monthly affair that brings the competition together. Every month will feature Panorama promoting a new venue. It gives people a fresh experience and hopefully, a different take on the many options available in America’s #3 happiest place for young professionals.

This first installment happens Wednesday 10/2 on the Midtown rooftop.

The Midtown Partyplex is a DuPont Circle favorite, featuring multiple floors and tons of singles. With fall weather quickly approaching, there won’t be many rooftop nights left. Break up the week and join Panorama Productions as they go outside the box and inside a new location 1 night/month.

Click on the flyer for details.

DC Alcohol Sales Extended on Holidays

While Mayor Vincent Gray’s attempt to raise an estimated $5M in tax revenue by extending bar hours may have failed, at least 1 small victory was won by the nightlife community of Washington, DC.

DC nightlife’s consolation prize: A new city policy that allows for extended alcohol sales on holidays.

The District of Columbia’s 2013 fiscal budget (effective 10/01/12) allows venues to apply for extended liquor permits on the evening before holidays such as Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and even Inauguration Day.

What does this mean for you?

It means you can party harder, better, faster, stronger when you have work off for a holiday! Work has been cancelled, everyone’s in from out of town and you definitely want to be out partying later than 2AM. Well… now you can!

REMEMBER: Extended bar hours do not mean you can drive drunk through the streets of DC blasting your horn and screaming out the window. Be smart and be safe.

Washington DC’s ABC affiliate recently reported live from Ultrabar, profiling the venue as a prime destination for DC parties:

57 bars applied for permits and 42 received them, thus earning extended hours for Columbus and Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and more next year.

Included in that list are Ultrabar, Barcode, Josephine and Echostage.

  • Atmosphere: Ultrabar is a larger multi-level nightclub appealing largely to the 18-30 crowd.  It’s laid out to maximize dancefloor space for those who really like to dance and party, and it definitely gets wild.  Boasting 6 bars, 4 dancefloors, 2 mezzanines, and 30+ VIP tables, Ultrabar really sets the standard for Nightclubs in DC.
Venue Overview

Ultrabar is an interesting character.  The building itself used to be a bank at the turn of the 20th century, and has retained some of the original bank aspects.  Ornate marble accents the bar area wall on the main floor, safe deposit boxes are illuminated behind colored glass in the basement vault (which is now a lounge level), true hardwood floors run throughout the club, and the original trim work and masonry has been fully restored but given a colorful paint job.

Combined with the modern LED lighting, Stainless steel accents, Marble bartops, Glass walls, and modern decor, it makes for an upscale, clean, and inviting atmosphere.

Cooling down the steaming hot dancefloor with freezing cold liquid nitrogen at -320F
Oh, and did I mention the cryogenics? No better way to chill out than liquid nitrogen at -320F!

But don’t let that fool you, this place really gets down.  Each floor has its own music format, a talented DJ on the decks, and a big bar to boot.  And of course, each floor features all the insane lights and pounding sound that you’d expect to see in a club like this.   Each floor also has its own VIP section where private tables can be booked.  The main floor additionally has two overlooking mezzanines with bars so you can have your drink and look down at the dancing people below.
