Semi Precious Weapons is the group that “splits the difference between AC/DC and Queen, fronted by the fabulously fierce Justin Tranter.”  It’s hard to argue with a band who expresses such an impassioned sentiment.  And audiences across the country ain’t fightin’ with the raw power and electricity that pulsates throughout a Semi Precious Weapons performance.  Their message is clear- music can be dangerous, dirty, and fun.

Travie McCoy to host POP @ FUR *Sat* 9/4

Travie McCoy wants to be a billionaire, so freakin’ bad — and, we think he’s on his way.

Tall, dark and handsome, this talented ladies man was born and raised in Geneva, New York, where he met Matt McGinley in his gym class. The duo bonded over a shared love of music and started a band that later became Gym Class Heroes, which burst into the mainstream in 2007 with the No. 1 hit “Cupid’s Chokehold.”

Now, he’s topping the music charts with his own song. “I Want To Be A Billionaire” [watch video].

Standing 6′ 5″ (see, we said he was tall), with loads of charm and charisma (and a hot collection of tattoos), Travie is one of music’s most recognized celebrities, which is why it’s no surprise that he’s dated several famous gals.

His latest main squeeze was Katy Perry — who he blasts in one of his new songs.

In it, Travie rants about Katy supposedly being with another man and calls her a ‘little brat.’ The song, “Don’t Pretend,” also features lyrics like, ‘Little miss teary eyes you have no reason to lie to me. I finally realize why you can’t look eye to eye with me. And I knew about him the whole time — the hotels, phone calls, psshhh the whole nine.’

Look out, ladies! This guy’s a fireball — who is raking in the big bucks. And, not only does he have one of the hottest new singles on the airwaves, he’s hot and single himself.

See Mr. “Billionaire” in person as POP does FUR — a special Saturday POP edition on Sept. 4, 2010!

Roberto’s music library is disgustingly huge and well equipped for throwing an amazing party. His knowledge of the DC crowd and what we like is unparalleled.

Jon Deke bangs out every time he spins. His ability to evenly flow from disco-influenced house to thumping electro is a testament to his prowess as a DJ. His opening sets for artists like Calvin Harris, JFK and Don Diablo prove that he can get the crowd moving with ease and keep them moving with every track he spins.

“Dentist by day, DJ by night.” Eddie Thoneick has had an amazing run. From a successful dental practice in his native Germany to a successful music career across the globe, there’s not much more the guy could ask for.

A student of the guitar, bass, piano and drums, it’s sort of ridiculous to think where he found the time to go to dental school. Or is it ridiculous he found the time to produce music? Sorry we keep talking about it, it’s just, where have you ever heard of something like this? Seriously… we’ve heard of hobbies, but a hobby that turns you into a world-famous DJ/Producer? You are the man Eddie.

And what makes things that much better is that his music is amazing! And it gets more and more amazing every year. The first time we heard Eddie Thoneick was his track ‘Freak’N You,’ which sampled 90’s R&B crooner Jodeci’s song of the same name. Since that time Eddie has progressed, evolved and reached the tipping point of mega stardom. His slew of releases this year, including the smash hit ‘Live Your Life,’ with Eric Morillo are, each and every one, house music gems.

We’ve seen German trance rise to the occasion through PvD and Cosmic Gate, we’ve seen German techno take flight through M-nus and now Eddie’s soulful yet thumping brand of house will bring Germany’s grip on EDM full circle.
Thursday will be sublime. Don’t miss it!!

Bio

Listening to Eddie Thoneick is akin to being grabbed by a musical whirlwind. Brilliantly crafting rhythms, soaring house vocals and diving, filthy electro beats. Eddie has a passion for the dance floor and the music that surrounds it that goes beyond infectious. Whether it’s ripping it up in the mix or delivering yet another sensational new production, it’s nigh on impossible to sit still once he’s got hold of you.

Although immersed in making music since he can remember, the real break-through for Eddie came in 2006 when his track ‘Love Sensation’ grabbed the attention of the great, the good and the almighty. Going head to head with Kurd Maverick, the pair came up with a dance floor destroyer that received support from the likes of Axwell, Erick Morillo, Pete Tong and Joachim Garraud. Eddie Thoneick was alive and kicking, and he wasn’t about to let go.

2007 saw him team up with emerging Dutch talent Berget Lewis, covering the C&C Music Factory classic, ‘Deeper Love’. Breaking straight into the notoriously hard UK market with all the ease of a hot knife through butter, ‘Deeper Love’ further established Eddie as ‘one to watch’. A title often thrown about with gay abandon but with Eddie, it seems increasingly to be the case. The fact was only underlined when in August of the same year, influential French broadcaster Radio FG gave Eddie his own weekly prime-time slot. Eddie’s sound was suddenly reaching the ears of millions – and there were big names listening. Remix requests began pouring in. Moby, Fedde le Grand, Sebastian Ingrosso & Steve Angello, David Guetta and more came knocking on Eddie’s door to get the unmistakable Thoneick touch.

It was a natural progression then when Eddie signaled his intention to create his own imprint. TONIK-rcrdngs was born and today features Eddie’s own work plus a growing collection of hot talent like Kurd Maverick, David Tort, Dons, DBN, Joachim Garraud, who share the same infectious vision for music as the man himself. The label’s first release ‘Freak N You’ received huge feedback and set the tone for things to come. Now ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ is doing the same, it’s high-octane energetic style bringing in elements of disco, rave, electro and pure uplifting vocal house music that feels like water from an oasis in a desert full of dry tech-elec-minimal nonsense that does nothing for the soul.

With his sound winning him fans in droves, it may have been a startling rise towards the top, but it’s one that shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.

2010 saw the release of Eddie’s track ‘Funk’ on Subliminal Records, the famous imprint of his early supporter Erick Morillo. On top of that, Eddie was invited to mix and arrange the „Strictly Miami 2010“ compilation for Strictly Rhythm. Today Eddie is not only part of the Subliminal Records family as a solo artist, but has even teamed up with label head Erick Morillo for a giant collaboration. The duo’s first output is ‘Nothing Better’, a classy piece of peaktime house music with the divine Shena on the vocals. With more Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick productions in the pipeline and a tour-diary that continues to expand, taking in cities across a landscape of continents from Asia and Australia to North America, South America and Europe, the word lies at Eddie’s feet for the taking.

Real World New Orleans to invade DC at POP @ Ultrabar 9/10

You know what happened when MTV put eight strangers in a house in Washington’s D.C.’s Dupont Circle last year.

But what will happen when we bring cast members from “The Real World: New Orleans” to D.C. for a wild night on the town?

Jemmye Carroll loves to party, wants to legalize marijuana, has a preference for black men and enjoys casual sex with no commitment. She’s from a conservative Southern Baptist community in Mississippi and has six tattoos.

Eric Patrick’s a stand-up comic who considers himself a “fast learner” and holds a job at the State Department. The ladies think he has dreamy eyes and is a ladies man. He says he’s perfected the art of juggling … women.

What will happen when we take this duo out of New Orleans, feed them complimentary booze and give them a license to party?

Find out at POP on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Ultrabar.
