From: The UK

Style: Techy, Toolroom House

Famous Tracks: Man with the Red Face, Columbian Soul, Good Times, Conscindo, Beautiful World

Best Known For: Starting the Toolroom movement. Finding time to run a label, publishing company, produce music AND DJ. Leading a new style of house music.

DJ Mag Rank: 53

If you haven’t witnessed the boss of Toolroom Records, a master of tech-house, rock a room… you’ve been missing out. All hell broke loose when Mark Knight took the decks of Lima Washington DC on 2/3/11. With Pleasurekraft, who will without question earn 2011 breakout artist of the year honors, 5/12/11 at Lima should be even bigger!

Mr. Knight is not only known for his wonderful combination of tech-house and progressive, but also his ability to seriously get down and dirty. He is a pioneer of Electronic Dance Music. With a giant grin on his face, Mr. Knight showed the people of DC a damn good time, like always.

His recent collaboration with Tiesto entitled “Beautiful World” is everywhere right now! His Toolroom label has been owning the Beatport charts. We get the best at their peaks!

As Pleasurekraft continues their ascent into the international spotlight, we can’t but worry their days as a Glow resident are numbered. Think about it. How many clubs in the world have residents with top 10 yearly tracks on Beatport, Radio 538 Dance Department episodes, Pete Tong asking for interviews and multiple gala events at WMC.

Not taking advantage of having Pleasurekraft as your resident is like starting a fist fight with a grizzly bear.

{tab=Bio}
Mark Knight’s legacy already ranks him as a leading player in dance music culture. His rise to the forefront has been more than just gigs and remixes; his contribution to the scene via his label Toolroom Records, demonstrates abilities that supercede the glorified title of ‘DJ’.

This year, with a Grammy Nomination for work on the Black Eyed Peas’ multi-platinum album ‘The-End’, 3 of the biggest selling records on Beatport’s ‘Best Sellers List’; ‘Music Matters’ ‘Flauta Magica’ & ‘Good Times’, an IDMA nomination for his Toolroom Knights weekly radio show and a prestigious Beatport award for his single ‘Good Times’ – 2010 has most definitely been a year of colossal achievement.

So where did it all start…

In 2004, with a personal vision for house music, Mark created his own workshop for 21st century dance musicians, Toolroom Records, and with it a new way of thinking.

Since its launch, the Toolroom imprint has developed into an uncontrollable beast, celebrating success as the biggest selling label on Beatport and reaching the milestone of 100 releases in 2009 courtesy of Faithless.

As a producer, Mark has built a reputation for outstanding releases; ‘Man With The Red Face’, ‘Downpipe’, ‘Good Times’, ‘Devil Walking’, consistently topping international dance charts, and has been involved in producing tracks for leading artists, including new output from Faithless and contribution to the latest Underworld album.

And there’s more…

As a DJ, Mark holds international prominence, recognised the world over for his extended 7 hour sets, headlining festivals and clubs from Ultra Music Festival Miami to the Terrace at Space Ibiza.

In 2006, Mark’s belief and desire to inject freshness into a stale club scene, inspired him to programme his own parties, this concept became a reality with the launch of Toolroom Knights at Ministry of Sound, London in October ’06.

Having gained unrivalled success as one of THE superior club nights, Toolroom Knights has gone on to generate great global success and support with Mark headlining Toolroom residencies at Cocoon Frankfurt, Space Miami, Ministry of Sound London, Pacha New York as well as hosting Toolroom arenas at key festivals including; SW4 London, Global Gathering UK, Dance Valley Netherlands.

All in all, it’s been a BIG journey for Mark Knight, pioneering a sound and attitude that’s gained respect from fans and industry people alike hungry for the integrity of Mark’s production skills and quality of Toolroom Knights’ parties. And there’s so much more to come.

From: Sweden

Style: House, uplifting, melodic, big room

Famous Tracks: In the Air, Nothing but Love, One (Swedish House Mafia), The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition (Axwell and Dirty South Remix), Adrian Lux – Teenage Drime (Axwell Remix), Leave the World Behind, It’s True

Best Known For: Being a deep thinker. Forming 1/3 of Swedish House Mafia. Bringing house music that much closer to the American mainstream.

DJ Mag Rank: 10

Do we have to say anything at all? The man we booked for the biggest night of the year (Thanksgiving Eve) is coming back to DC nightlife for round 2! You can find pictures from the last event here.

As 1/3 of Swedish House Mafia, Axwell essentially took over the world of dance music last year with the hit song ‘One (Your Name).’ The group’s follow up, ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ as well as Ax’s single ‘Nothing But Love For You’ and remix of ‘Teenage Crime’ have been hammered in clubs from DC to Down Under.

He and friend, producer and Mafia affiliate Dirty South were nominated for the 2011 Grammy for Best Remix with their take on The Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition.’

2011 has seen a flurry of new releases and remixes on his Axtone label. And of course, something new with Dirty South is in the pipeline!!

Axwell ripping it up at Glow Washington DC on a Saturday night at Fur Nightclub

{tab=Bio}

The king of the sun-kissed summer anthem; the mogul behind one of the hottest imprints on the planet; a superstar producer and DJ who’s never lost the giddy enthusiasm of a fledgling clubber; and one of the most successful and influential remixers of the 21st century. By anyone’s standards, Axel ‘Axwell’ Hedfors is a giant of modern-day dance music – and he’s only going to get bigger.

Axwell’s steady ascent into clubland aristocracy began when he struck crossover gold with 2004’s glorious ‘Feel The Vibe’. An unstoppably uplifting and instantly memorable track, the original version of ‘Feel The Vibe’ (featuring vocalist Errol Reid) dazzled every corner of clubland, before an overhauled version (with new vocals by Tara McDonald) gate-crashed the UK top 20. 2005’s ‘Watch The Sunrise’ (featuring Steve Edwards) proved to be another unstoppable anthem, as was his 2006 collaboration with fellow Swedish House Mafioso Steve Angello, Supermode’s ‘Tell Me Why’ (released via Ministry Of Sound, it reach #13 in the UK and #3 in the Netherlands). But it was 2007’s rave-referencing ‘I Found U’ (#6 in the UK charts) that really cemented Axwell’s status as a producer who could marry artistic innovation with strong commercial appeal – a rare thing indeed, in any genre of music. Most recently he was one of the forces behind Swedish House Mafia – One (Your Name) featuring Pharell Williams, another top ten UK hit, crashing into the summer charts at #7 and soundtracking every festival, dance event and Ibiza club night.

“I do feel pressure to maintain a certain level of success,” says Axwell. “That’s a weight that lies on my shoulders – but all that pressure comes from myself. I want every tune to be better than the last one: to sound stronger, to be phatter, to work better in a club. So it’s pressure, but it’s good pressure. It pushes me forwards, creatively.”

“For me, it’s all about asking questions of myself. Would I play this? Would I play it during peak time? Is it the phattest thing I’ve ever heard? Is it the most futuristic shit out there? I question the track – and myself – the whole time. I’ve got a good expression: the goose-bumps never lie. If you get goose-bumps during the production stage, then you’re on the right track…”

Axwell’s Midas-like touch – along with his peerless technical ability – has made him the go-to guy for artists looking to get their latest release reworked into a storming dancefloor juggernaut. Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Moby and Pharrell Williams have all come a-knockin’, while productions such as his masterful reworking of Hard-Fi’s ‘Hard To Beat’, his sublime remix of The Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition’ (along with Dirty South) and of course his unstoppable version of TV Rock’s ‘In The Air’ have gone on to become as big as – or, in many cases, bigger than – the original tracks.

Part of what makes Axwell such a sought-after producer is his dazzling stylistic agility; he can switch between house, techno and electro (and everything in-between) without even breaking a sweat.

“Axwell has an innate feel for the dancefloor,” says long-time fan Judge Jules, “but his versatility is even more impressive. Too many producers get caught in a trademark groove, becoming a prisoner of their own perceived style. Axwell’s material is so varied, but it never fails to rock – big time.”

You only have to take a look over the back catalogue of Axtone, Axwell’s much-admired label

Some might caution the readiness and command of a twenty-two year old.  They might call into question the lack of experience or credentials of such a young artist.  Yet, with Shah Munir, better known as Shahz, such questions are quickly put to rest, and caution eliminated.

His resume reads like a seasoned veteran – from being showcased at esteemed venues such as 1 Oak, Avenue Greenhouse and Marquee in New York City, catering to the A-list crowds in LA, London and Dubai to collaborating with mega-stars from DJ AM, Felix Da Housecat, Fabolous and Sean Kingston, to DJ David Berrie, Maino, Dj Chachi, Wynter Gordon and Trey Songz and having corporate clients such as Cartier and Moet Chandon.

Such international performances and collaborations, as well as his unique talent to understand and adapt to both crowd and setting has made his reputation reverent and his nightly performances unprecedented. Rest assured, this young artist is on the way to achieving great lengths in his future endeavors.

From: UK

Style: techno

Famous Tracks:Lost, Superfly, 21st Century Ketchup, Out at Night, Sleepwalking, Carnival Kalimba, Femme Fatale, Tanov – Relevant (Steve Lawler Remix)

Best Known For: Hosting the legendary M42 Motorway raves when clubs wouldn’t let him spin as a youth. Leading the way in the UK techno movement. Never succumbing to the pressure to conform. Constant progression.

In a time when the music industry has risen to an all time high; where the swollen pockets of music executives have diluted quality; where the radio has become more vanilla than French ice cream; and the rise of internet distribution has allowed anyone, talented or not, to get their ‘art’ to the masses; Steve Lawler has remained all about the music.

His career has spanned nearly two decades and seen a teen from Birmingham go from throwing illegal parties under a highway to being crowned King of Space, Lawler has made it a point, no, an imperative necessity, to remain true to his forward thinking musical nature.

Now, nearly twenty years after he first threw the first of his legendary M42 motorway parties, Mr. Lawler is still pushing the boundaries of dance, performance and music.

“Performing is addictive, it’s a unique feeling, something that I will never get from anything else in my life. Sharing music that you are passionate about to an audience of people is magical for me.” – Steve Lawler

Experience the magic.

{tab=Bio}

Steve Lawler A child of the acid house generation, has been busy with the beats long
before genres were but a twinkle in clublandʼs eye. An electronic artist who defies generic
boundaries, ever since his days organising the infamous motor way raves under the M42
motor way, in the uk.

As an Artists his releases & Remixes have been signed by some of the worlds most
established Recording labels. R&S Records, Systematic, Drumcode, Harthouse, Cocoon,
MBF, OVUM, Sci+Tec, Tsuba, Souvenir, Rekids, Boxer Sport, Be As One, Monique,
Kostbar, Skint and of course his own recording label VIVa MUSiC.

As a Label Manager Steveʼs label VIVa MUSC (found in 2006), has quickly earnʼt a
reputation for breaking new talent and has featured tracks by such artists as Reboot,
Audiofly, Simon Baker, Jamie Jones, Davide Squillace, Luca Bacchetti, Bushwacka, Livio
& Roby, Dragosh, Leon, Plasmik, Ripperton, ilario Alicante, John Selway, Peace Division,
Bearweasel, Tiefschwarz and of course lawler him self amongst many others and receives
heavy patronage by many House & Techno luminaries.

As for A&R, just ask artists like Simon Baker, Audiofly, leon, Bearweasel and Livio & Roby
and theyʼll tell you all about the support, encouragement and opportunities Lawler has
given them.

VIVa MUSiC works as a culmination of everything thatʼs gone before; from the putting on
the aforementioned illegal raves, to his residency at super club Cream back in the mid
90ʼs. Heʼs remixed high profile artists such as Jamelia, Dido and Justin Timberlake and
worked with many of the worlds renowned dance imprints. As well as recording a track for
the blockbuster horror movie by Ian Softly ʻThe Skeleton Keyʼ. Heʼs released some of the
industryʼs most collectable mix series such as the ʻDark Drumsʼ ʻLights Outʼ and, most
recently, the ʻVIVaʼ series. Now on its 3rd release, the ʻVIVaʼ series has revealed Steveʼs
widescreen vision better than any mix before with down tempo and deep house playing a
big part in the beat blend.

Steve held a triumphant residency for nine years at the Balearic club Space in Ibiza (a club
he returned back to in 2008). His VIVa Nights residency where steve played from doors
open to door close at The End in London consistently sold out for its 7 years span and his
residency at Londonʼs Home Club was one of the infamous venueʼs only success stories.
Dynamic, driven and drastically obsessed with performing as well as he possibly can.
Steveʼs passion for House, Techno and Electronica is too strong for one simple generic
association, and right now his message is louder than ever. 18 years deep and Steve
Lawler isnʼt just at the top of his game, heʼs pushing the boundaries of what a DJ can do –
both technically and creatively – as an artist and as a successful label businessman.

Famous Tracks: Beat Dat Beat
Best Known For: Gym, tan, laundry. T-shirt time. The shirt before the shirt. Tossing grenades and stepping on landmines.
America’s Best DJ Rank: 8

Pauly D’s debut performance at Glow was unreal. We were thoroughly impressed by his ability to move between tracks like Far East Movement – Fly Like a G6, Wynter Gordon and David Guetta – Dirty Talk, David Guetta and Afrojack – Louder than Words, Afrojack – Zeggie, Avicii – Bromance and Alcoholic, Sweet Disposition. You see how that goes right there? Yeah you do. That’s called FLOW, and DJ Pauly D has got plenty of it.

We can only assume that with more massive events under his belt comes an even more eclectic track selection and perhaps a widening of the gap on both ends! Like we said in our review of the first event, his ability to introduce mainstream fans to quality house music took our breath away.

This is not Pop. This is GLOW!

{tab=Bio}
Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio aka. Pauly D was born in Providence, RI on July 5, 1980. His lifelong interest and early passion for music are what sparked his career, that passion brought him right to the top as Pauly is one of the most sought after DJ’s today.

Pauly’s fame rose to a new level in December 2009 when MTV’s highest rated show “Jersey Shore” first premiered. Pauly quickly became a fan favorite known for his impeccable grooming and memorable catchphrases.

In 2010, Pauly released his first single “Beat Dat Beat” with Universal Republic Records which quickly rose up the charts solidifying his place in pop culture. In June 2010 Pauly earned one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a DJ, he was nominated for America’s Best DJ, alongside the best in the business.

Long before his MTV “Jersey Shore” fame Pauly started as DJ, and that is where his passion remains. Pauly started spinning in the club scene at the age of 18 at local spots, and private functions.

Pauly has the incredible ability to control and please a crowd. This world famous DJ is definitely a ladies man to the fullest extreme, any venue he spins at will be packed with beautiful women, dying for a glimpse of him and what he does. He has surpassed the capabilities of most local DJ´s and the vibe he brings is beyond powerful. He strides in keeping the dance floor moving.

Pauly is one of the nation’s favorite DJ’s and is always in high demand. He is a crowd favorite and a true asset to any venue. Pauly continues to tour the world DJing while holding down a Vegas residency.

From: USA (Texas)

Style: Electro

Famous Tracks: Conscindo w/ Mark Knight, Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony, Illmerica, Animal Rights w/ Deadmau5, Undertaker

Best Known For: Destroying dance floors with electro goodness. Producing banger after banger. Being awesome.

DJ Mag Rank: 70

With eight #1’s on the Beatport charts, a collaboration with Deadmau5, stops at Coachella and EDC, numerous international tour dates and a relentless production and DJ style, it’s no wonder Wolfgang Gartner cracked the DJ Mag top 100 in 2010. The electro thumper from Austin, Texas has been a major contributor in igniting the US house scene. Even though house music was invented in Chicago, it has only recently taken off in the American mainstream. Right now electro artists like Steve Aoki and Wolfgang are carrying the torch.

Gartner’s artist album is set to drop sometime this spring and we’re certain he’s going to light DC nightlife on fire with brand new productions, including that one with will.i.am we keep hearing about!

{tab=Bio}

The name Wolfgang is synonymous with greatness. Name your baby Wolfgang, and he may grow up to be one of the world’s leading chefs, or a member of a seminal band like Kraftwerk or Van Halen. In keeping with that tradition, in less than three years the producer and DJ known as Wolfgang Gartner has gone from strength to strength, with eight #1 tracks on Beatport (including the site’s best-selling track of 2009) and remixes for A-list artists (Black Eyed Peas, Timbaland, Britney Spears), all lauded by peers such as David Guetta, Tïesto, and Pete Tong.

No, with the forename Wolfgang, Gartner’s success shouldn’t surprise anyone. And yet it does. Because that is his stock in trade: surprising listeners. “Right now, I feel like I have a responsibility to advance the genre,” he says. “I have to come up with something completely new, that’s never been done before.”

Just study a couple of Gartner’s smashes to understand how rapidly his game keeps changing. The melody of “Undertaker” is composed from an encyclopedia array of electronic timbres, chopped into succinct, rapid-fire bits, yet solid hooks anchor the whole track; while the record is instantly recognizable, it packs so much information into its grooves it’s impossible for the brain to become overly-familiar with it. “Firepower” opens with a neo-classical melody, gives way to a brief passage of glistening arpeggios reminiscent of Vangelis or Tangerine Dream, then throws down an array of beats that explode in patterned bursts like Chinese New Year.

Yet Gartner isn’t simply an underground sensation. He has played before thousands at events like Coachella and Ultra Music Festival. Black Eyed Peas main man will.i.am has already tapped him for collaborations, he was recently nominated for a grammy, and legendary record executive Jimmy Iovine—who has nurtured the careers of icons ranging from Eminem to Stevie Nicks—has displayed a strong interest in Gartner. The number of requests he gets to remix other artists’ tracks has reached a point where he elects to decline ninety-nine percent of them (“I generally only work with artists for whom I have great respect and admiration”).

Like another famous Wolfgang, Gartner started his artistic experiments at a very young age. As a little boy growing up in California he studied piano, playing both classical and jazz. But it was during a family trip to Tanzania when he was 11 years old that Gartner was turned on to dance music, in the form of a mix tape that featured Kevin Saunderson’s 1988 crossover techno hit “Good Life.” “I heard that track and it completely changed the chemical structure of my brain.” Back home in America, he began making his own forays into the field, producing original tracks on drum machines and keyboards while other kids were off at soccer practice or watching cartoons.
Unlike Mozart, Gartner’s genius didn’t translate into the misadventures of an enfant terrible. Quite the opposite: “I spent all my time with music… alone.” With the onset of adolescence, he began sharing his handiwork with the world. At 13, he procured a set of tape decks with pitch controls and a four track mixer, and started playing basement parties. A year later, he graduated to turntables, and by 16 he’d begun spinning in nightclubs. As a consequence of his well-trained ear, he was particularly attuned to harmony, eschewing the classic rookie mistake of mixing tracks in incompatible keys. “I never wanted to compromise the integrity of the music,” he recalls.

That commitment to the integrity of the music continues to this day. Gartner is meticulous in his approach to crafting new tracks in the studio, contemplating how they’ll sound in different venues and new ways to pitch curveballs at the dance music cognoscenti—without using gratuitous gimmicks. Whereas many producers start with a rhythm track, Gartner is more likely to begin with a melody and a concept, and experiment… and experiment and experiment… until the pieces begin to click. “Music doesn’t just come out of thin air,” he admits. “Inspiration is a natural process.” And it can’t be forced. If you actually take the time to read artist bios on clubglow.com please send an email to ravibayanker@yahoo.com – The first 7 responses will receive a free drink on Ravi at the event.

As he moves forward, Gartner doesn’t want to just advance his art form—he also wants to put a fresh twist on Top 40 fare. “I definitely want to work with pop and rap artists as a producer.” So long as his identity and integrity remain intact: “I want to make what I like making, and if a rapper can rap on it, then great.” With numerous new projects in the pipeline, he still appreciates the distinction between world domination and overexposure. “I’m definitely about quality over quantity,” he concludes. With Wolfgang Gartner, only one thing is certain: his next move is always a surprise. {tab=Video}

dj ps1 washington dcWith a more than respectable Autumn Top 10 on beatport.com, PS1 has moved into Winter 10/11 with enough heat to melt metal! The Moodswing 360 all-star is one of NY’s brightest stars behind the decks. His impressive resume includes events at Cain, 1Oak and Tenjune as well as being a favorite of Diddy. In fact, it seems as though the paparazzi can’t leave the guy alone.

Paris Hilton comes to his events, says hi on a red carpet in LA, and PS1 ends up front page news in all the celebrity gossip columns. Brittney Spears climbs into the booth and starts making out with him and… well, she does things like that anyway. A favorite of Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen, it’s clear that PS1 has quite the buzz going for him. Spinning since he was 12 and discovered at 16 by neighbor DJ Skribble, the NY fly would prefer all that attention be directed on the party itself. All he wants to do is get behind the decks, throw a rager and go home to his sneaker collection at the end of the day.

“F**k You” falls to number four but is still holding strong on the top ten. Eight weeks on the charts is nothing to be upset about though! If you see them “driving ’round town with the girl [you] love” then there’s only one thing to say .. f**k you!

Jennifer Lopez
Album: On the Floor

Lopez and Pitbull climb back up a couple spots this week with “On the Floor,” a song most literally about tearing up the dance floor. Some say it sounds too much like Kat DeLuna’s “Party O’Clock” and Maya’s “Stereo Love,” what do you think?

Ten weeks on the charts and peaking at number two, P!nk is making a comeback and is there to stay! One part advice, one part story of her life, P!nk wants you to know that you should never feel less than perfect!

Just Breaking into the top ten at number ten but on the charts for 13 weeks, Adele brings a decidedly different sound to the charts. In this song Adele vents her anger at a relationship that could have “had it all” but instead she is betrayed by the one she loves.
