DJ Mag has listed him as the world’s reigning champ, holding down the #1 spot for 2 years running. Now Hardwell makes his return to Washington, DC’s own Echostage for a two night stay!
Just in case you forgot how epic his Echostage debut was last year, here’s a quick reminder:
Music maturity came swiftly for the now seasoned-veteran Robbert van de Corput, better known as Hardwell. At the age of 25, the young Dutch titan capped off a 10 year journey when he was crowned World’s No.1 DJ in the 2013 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll cementing his position as the electronic scenes newest superstar DJ and becoming the youngest ever winner of the coveted Top 100 DJs award. In 2014 the Dutch megastar did it again – being crowned World’s #1 DJ in the 2014 edition of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Poll for a second consecutive year. Having already created a legacy that would put most of his counterparts to shame this award-winning DJ, producer, musician, label owner and lover of all things music has not only helped shape the current state of EDM, but has left an everlasting imprint on it.

With over a decade to his illustrious career already, the chart-topping megastar has wholly managed to capture the hearts of multiple generations of EDM fans across the world with his flawless trademark tech/electro/house infused sounds and charismatic performance flair. Whether he’s behind the booth or in the studio, there’s never a dull moment when Benny’s around and fortunately for us, he’s showing no signs of slowing down whatsoever.

Thomas Wesley Pentz, better known as Diplo, is unquestionably one of the most dynamic forces in music today. He is as much as an international brand (tastemaker, spokesman, curator) as he is a musician/DJ/producer. Year after year, he’s proven himself to be an ubiquitous cultural figure, consistently bridging high and low, mainstream and underground, with remarkable tact and reverence.
In 2005, Diplo founded label/culture lab Mad Decent to serve as a showcasing platform for the myriad of fascinating sounds Pentz encounters while touring the world. The early release of Brazilian group Bonde do Role remains a testament to Diplo’s aspirations, as their music helped define Baile Funk in the United States. Mad Decent has gone on to release music from a dynamic range of artists that include Santigold, Peter Bjorn & John, Rusko, Crookers, Bosco Delrey, Lil’ Jon, Gucci Mane, Buraka Som Sistema, Dillon Francis, RiFF RAFF, Baauer and Major Lazer. Coming full circle from his days of Hollertronix, Diplo has also utilized the label to produce the annual and infamous Mad Decent block parties – a series of outdoor dance parties/concerts that now span 22 cities across North America.
Diplo is truly a jack of all trades – he’s contributed to Vanity Fair, yields regular radio shows on BBC Radio 1 and Clear Channel Media stations, modeled for the campaign of fashion designer Alexander Wang, released the coffee table book 128 Beats Per Minute and the documentary film, Favela On Blast, and most recently had a cameo role in 22 Jump Street and stars as the host of the ?uestlove-produced VH1 show, SoundClash. Diplo is a dynamic and self-driven spirit with interests that span far beyond any singular culture or musical realm; he is truly the 21st century artist.

Tom Cruise’s Son to Play Glow Thursdays at Ultrabar
When you saw ‘Connor Cruise’ on the front of a Glow flyer,
did any part of you think, ‘I wonder if he’s related to Tom?’
The answer is yes.

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s adopted son Connor, now 18 years of age, has made the art of spinning records his career for the foreseeable future. With his father being one of the biggest film stars in the world and a highly valued client on the William Morris Agency roster, Connor was quickly plugged into the electronic listing of the Global super agency’s music division.
Whether you think he deserves it or not is irrelevant. Everyone is dealt a different hand in life. It’s up to us to play our cards as best we can.
From a prominent role in 2012’s ‘Red Dawn’ to gigs across America, Connor Cruise is maximizing his talent as well as his name.
But we digress. Let’s throw Connor Cruise’s Hollwood pedigree to the side for a moment and see if he’s got skills.
The obvious question for an EDM Snob is, “Does he use a ghostwriter? What about a prerecorded set?” We tend to give artists we don’t know the benefit of the doubt. When you grow up as music loving member of the Hollywood elite, you’ve more than likely received intense musical training, had a chance to pick the brains of the best musicians in the world, etc. We’re going to go ahead and assume that Connor is doing his best to learn how to produce and DJ the old fashioned way, just with a little more guidance from some very important people.
Come catch Connor Cruise, a rising talent in the world of dance music, who happens to be Tom Cruise’s kid, on Thursday May 23rd at the new Glow Thursdays at Ultrabar!
