Fujimar: Late-Night Sushi & Ceviche in Washington DC
1401 K Street,
Home of Lima Lounge Welcomes Fujimar

Take an open second floor space,
infuse Latin and Asian flavors.
Mix Sake and Tequila. Sushi and Ceviche.
Drop some downtempo music.
Here is DC’s newest Restaurant
and evening seafood bar.
Fujimar is the product of combining and renovating Lima Restaurant and Vetro Lounge. Focusing solely on the culinary experience, the second level of Lima Lounge has adopted a more open layout, added a drink bar, sushi bar, and created a menu drizzled in Japanese-South American fusion.
While Lima Lounge remain’s one of DC’s top nightlife destinations, Fujimar will become a choice amongst DC foodies for sushi, ceviche and select items from the former Lima Restaurant menu.
Entering Fujimar from the familiar entrance at 1401 K St. NW, patrons are greeted by an inviting, modern layout. Stainless steel accents at the new drink bar compliment the hardwood floors. Comfortably firm white leather couches, chic velvet-like chairs, minimalist table seating washed by a chroma light display creates a relaxed, high-end atmosphere. Moving further inside, large HDTVs add to the ambience while stone-top tables fit for kings await.
The menu features a combination of Asian and Latin food without the standard con-“fusion” experienced at similar style restaurants. Fujimar instead recreates the unique culinary experience achieved only when two foreign cuisines blend naturally. The result is an interpretation of cuisine forged when Asian immigrants relocated to Latin America.
These inspirations will result in a menu of sushi and ceviche alongside a selection of fish (including unusual options such as Tasmanian Kin Salmon, and Hapu’up’u), caught and shipped the same day from Hawaiian waters.
Owner Masoud Aboughaddareh ensures the fish will be “hooked, line-caught or speared by divers within American waters to ensure strict fishing regulations” and “chosen with great care, knowledge and sensitivity
for preserving the environmental heritage of the world’s most coveted seafood.” Other options such as braised short ribs and barbecued chicken with butter and soy sauce will be available as well.
Fujimar’s drink menu features wine list with imports by artisan winemakers, an extensive Saki collection and a hand-crafted beverage program. No thirst will go unquenched.
Sushi and ceviche served until 1AM M-Th and 2am F/S enhance an already gratifying experience. Fujimar hopes to infuse something fresh into DC restaurants and the K Street neighborhood.

DC Meat Free Week Kick Off at Barcode
Barcode Salutes DC Meat Free Week
Barcode joins in on “DC Meat-Free Week” making predators throughout the metro area uneasy and vegetarians waving their greenery in solidarity.
In response to the District’s “Meat Week”, vegetarians and vegans alike raised their foliage in the face of the shameless flesh binging festival. The carnivorous festival ended February 5, just in time to allow football fans the chance to feast on piles of meaty Super Bowl treats.
Starting on Monday February 6 through February 13 Barcode will be joining the ranks of the meatless in celebration of DC Meat-Free Week. Guests will have the option of ordering from the standard menu or the DC vegetarian restaurant menu. The vegetarian options will include starters, soups, salads, pizzas, entrees, and desserts.
The grass fed will have a chance to feast on all the nuts and berries they can stomach. In addition to already vegetarian restaurants like Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats, Café Green, and Elizabeth’s Gone Raw, non-vegetarian restaurants like Argonaut, and Casa Oaxaca, several other DC restaurants will offer meat-free menu items in honor of the vegetarian-themed week. Even the food trucks are getting in on the action starting February 8.
For full listing on where to join in on the meatless celebration of all things veggie, check out the Washington Going Out Guide’s recommendations for best vegan/vegetarian food in the DC area. So put down your bacon and branch out into the world of the meat-free!

- Atmosphere: According to owners Dave Karim and Rich Vasey, Lost Society’s name refers to “the lost art of getting along… We want everyone to feel like they belong.” The diverse, upscale demographic suggests success. The DC restaurant & lounge feels like someone took their very upscale vintage home, put it on U Street and said, “sure, we can party every night!” The crowd is about 25-40, out for a good time but nothing crazy and looks good.
Venue Overview
Lost Society sits in the 2nd and 3rd level of an unassuming building on the corner of 14th and U Street. The ambiance inside is a far cry from the exterior.
Ascending the staircase brings DC foodies into a dining room full of rich colors and plush fabrics. Intimate corners and low light create an intimate yet upbeat atmosphere. A circular bar and southfacing windows provide a nice view of the action on U street.
Head Chef Joseph Evans, formerly of Smith & Wollensky, uses a 1,800 degree broiler to produce some of the best steak in DC!

The top floor is where the real action is. Designed to contrast with the second level; the white walls, wood floor, wall candles and chandeliers bring a sleek, more modern contrast to the comfort below. With a DJ booth at the end of the room and large deck with its own bar (tented in winter), the top floor of Lost Society is a great choice for going out in DC. The crowd is upscale, diverse and always smiling.

- Atmosphere: The Buddha Bar chain is famous for its intimately lit, posh interiors. Patrons tend to be an upscale 25-45 more akin to sitting with friends than mingling at the bar or dancing. There are plenty of table/lounge areas with couches. A dance floor exists where the lounge, dinner and bar areas meet but is not a focus. The first time you walk into Buddha Bar you will be blown away by its eclectic elegance.
Venue Overview
The Buddha Bar chain is famous for its posh interiors inspired by Asian Temple, Portuguese Estate and Santa Fe influences with colonial style mahogany furniture. The décor consists of Chinese and Japanese artifacts, magic lanterns, elegant chandeliers and light fixtures housed under high ceilings in a large, airy room. In the back sits a giant Buddha, the signature of every Buddha Bar.
Each zone is meant to instill a feeling of weightlessness. Buddha Bar is lit as perfect as a lounge can be with its amber shading. The wood panels, ancient vases, oriental statues, mosaic, golden fabric and lacquer wood add to the prestige.

On the left hand wall of the venue, raised far above the floor sits an illuminated DJ booth where the bouncing flow of house music is mildly channeled through the lounge’s system. The space opens up towards the back and holds a dining room and the chain’s signature, a massive statue of The Buddha, sitting in the back.
Once extremely popular in NY, LA, Paris and throughout the world, recent years have seen Buddha Bar lose its trending status. There are exceptions, such as Barcelona and Lisbon, where actors, athletes and models come together.
Although the nightlife may be subpar when compared to her contemporaries, Buddha Bar DC’s menu features choice Asian fusion cuisines including amazing sushi, hot and cold dishes and an impressive saki menu.
